Huya Aniwa Institute
Re-indigenizing land with the commitment to ecological and cultural preservation.
About
The Huya Aniwa Institute is a community initiative located on the sacred land of La Noria in the municipality of Mazatlán. It is a natural corridor to the rich biodiversity of the Meseta de Cacaxtla Reserve in Northwestern Mexico. This initiative is guided by indigenous wisdom and dedicated to nature conservation and revitalization.
Our efforts focus on reforestation, sustainable land stewardship, food sovereignty, native species repopulation, watershed conservation, and traditional cultural practices.
Our nature school educates future Earth stewards. We bridge indigenous tradition and technology, fostering a future where humanity thrives in tandem with the planet.
Mission
The Huya Aniwa Institute is guided by Indigenous wisdom and dedicated to preserving the sacred lands surrounding the Sierra Madre Occidental. Through strategic land-buyback initiatives and reforestation efforts, we aim to establish a sanctuary for jaguars and the region's rich biodiversity.
Huya Aniwa means "the magical universe of nature,” a term from Mexico's Yoreme or Yaqui peoples.
This term applies not only to the beauty of the natural environment but also signals the fact that Indigenous cultures perceive it as a portal, the most significant expression of the Indigenous philosophy of life. This shows how the connection between humanity and nature is essential to our existence.
